When I think of rain, I imagine the sounds, smells, and colors that it brings. I think of hot tea, fuzzy socks, and a good book. They say that rain on your wedding day is a sign of good luck. In some cultures it represents cleansing, unity, and rejuvenation. A way of welcoming a new chapter in your life, while the old one gets washed away. For Thanh and Eric, a little rain brought a whole lot of love to their special day. As their family and friends from all over the world came together to celebrate the incredible connection that Thanh and Eric share.

It’s late September in the Pacific Northwest. My favorite time of year. The Abernethy Center Veiled Garden was sprinkled with gold and yellow leaves, as a fall breeze carried them over a brick laid aisle, empty white chairs, and through the gazebo where in just a few short hours my good friends will be saying their vows. I arrived to the venue early to take in the still beauty of this amazing place on this perfect day. Soon these seats will be filled, and everyone will be eagerly awaiting the moment when the Bride and Groom declare their love and commitment to each other.

This wedding was so special and unique in many ways. Thanh wore not one, but two gorgeous dresses! She was absolutely stunning in her deep red Vietnamese ceremony gown. With a crown of wild flowers to compliment the beaded masterpiece that was her dress, she looked like a Goddess. The first look that the happy couple shared was an unforgettable moment. When Eric saw his bride for the first time, I don’t think I have ever seen him smile so much.

The ceremony was sweet and elegant. The floral arrangements were outstanding – very organic and lush. All of the moments of the reception were spectacular from the food, cake, and Photo Boot provided by Flash Photo Boothto the music, dancing, and the bouquet toss. What an unforgettable night!

I love that Eric and Thanh wanted to involve their friends and family in their special day. When Thanh asked me to photograph her wedding, I was overjoyed that I could be a part of their story – that I’d capture every smile, kiss and tear and I could give them back these moments to hold on to forever. Friends from Amsterdam toasted the Bride and Groom while another close friend officiated the wedding. Many family members and friends were involved with preparing all of the details for this magical day, which made it so incredibly memorable.

I wish Thanh and Eric all of the happiness that is possible in this world, and I hope that a little rain on your wedding day brings you luck and joy and everything good in life during this next chapter. And maybe, when you think of rain, it’ll remind you of these moments…
